Compositional

The compositional elements of a photograph bring the whole picture together as one.

Rule of Thirds

In this photograph taken at Lake Perris, I positioned myself in the center of a fishing pier looking toward the water. The pier creates leading lines toward the mountain. In the first photo, you can see the picture is balanced because of the  equal distribution of the elements in the photo. The horizon is horizontal and lies on the rule of thirds line. The pier is centered and the edges of it lies on the rule of thirds line as well. The reflection of the mountain balances out the actual mountain. The water is white on both sides, balancing the photo. I made a choice to convert the picture to black and white because of the many textures present in the photo. The photo had bland colors and wasn't quite interesting in color. The conversion to black and white changed the overall feeling of the photo, making it complete.

Leading Lines

Leading lines are an important part of composition. The lines in the photo lead the viewer's eye to the subject of the photo. The fence is used as a leading line, guiding the eyes towards the center. Because I took a picture of the corner of the fencing, it gives a 'fish eye' effect, also making the photograph centralized. The leading lines help the viewer conclude that the two German Shepard are the main subject.

Framing

In this photo, I chose to to cut off most of the tree to focus on the sneakers in the tree. I positioned myself so I would capture it in the frame of the camera. I framed this picture while taking it. I did not crop it so that it in post-processing. I believe the way I framed it emphasizes the sneakers and makes the picture.
